I arrived in Acton-Vale by train, and am fettling down right now. I will
be checking the place, it's big, fields and wood areas. If I'm lucky,
Yves said that deers come close to the house at sundown. |

Great looking day, so I checked out the town's old buildings.
Built around a copper mine, lots of people came here in 1857. Mainly
English-speaking settlers built the church (1874), the bank, the railroad
and public market. Later, when no more copper would be found, French-speaking
people settled around.
Expansion
included the train station (1900), post office (1905, and college. The
population today is almost the same as in 1895, signs that when the
mining ended, lots of folks left the place.

Well, it is really cold out there today, even if Jed Gibson lend me
a fur vest for awhile. Yves' father is really packing the stove. I like
him, wood for heat is always a good trade...and the snow keeps coming
down.

Even if the weather isn't better, I did meet interesting people today,
Indians. They want to meet and discuss with Custer. I'll see what I
can do for them. Jed Gibson said he'll help me. Oh! Night is coming,
got to pack the stove.

Guess what! The wood doesn't come in here walking, got to help out.
I should say, I saw some deers at sundown, close to the house, like
Yves said....pack the stove, pack the stove...

I was kinda supposed to pack my stuff today, for traveling person,
but don't have to. Good thing, Jed Gibson came running and said that
the Indians and Custer would meet later today, so I could ride with
him if I wanted...I said "sure."
I must say, it was not what I thought it would be. The Indians and
the US Army represented by General Custer and General Crook did not
discuss much. Jed told me later that they did accomplish some. I'll
take his word for it, and gave him back his fur vest.

No word on the train schedule today so today I'll help Yves mother
with stable chores. With dogs running around, rabbits to feed and
goats rushing at me, I almost felt at home. Once done, more wood to
carry in the house.

Guys here gave me a brown bowie knife this morning. Some blade on
this. Another cold day, well, let's keep the stove full, I could get
to like this. Sadly, I am packing my stuff for the trail.

Words that the train will stop here today. No time to spare. I say
goodbye to everyone (and everything) in Acton-Vale, and start walking
towards the train station.
